Youth Act Kalimantan, a youth movement under Ranu Welum Foundation, in collaboration with KSR PMI UPR, undertook a momentous tree planting activity that was met with resounding success. Over the course of three consecutive days in April 2024, the dedicated volunteers planted a total of 1,100 trees in the degraded land of Central Kalimantan.
KSR PMI UPR Unit is part of the Indonesian Red Cross, an organization that focuses on humanitarian missions. They are known for their humanitarian activities, and this time they participated in the reforestation effort. Ayu Filiana Fadia, Chairperson of KSR PMI UPR Unit, expressed her happiness to be able to participate in the tree planting collective action. "Every human being has a responsibility to nature. This is an extraordinary achievement to be able to do good with nature, no matter what your job or education background is.”
There are three tree species that were planted. Two of them were Jelutung and Pulai, which are known as endemic trees needed for revegetation of peatland. Another species was Petai (stinky bean), as part of building agriculture for the community surrounding the area. Each day, the volunteers worked tirelessly under the scorching sun, digging holes, planting saplings, and ensuring that each tree was properly nurtured and cared for so the barren landscape can turn into a green forest teeming with life and potential.
The tree planting initiative was made possible through the generous support of 100BON, a renowned eco-friendly fragrance brand that is committed to sustainability and environmental conservation. Thanks to their contribution, the youth volunteers were able to make a tangible impact on the local ecosystem and work towards a greener, healthier future for the region. In the future, we will plant more different kind of trees that will help cultivate the forest ecosystem such as gaharu (eagle wood), bungur, and kaja (oak).
The success of this tree planting activity serves as a shining example of what can be achieved through collaboration, dedication, and a shared commitment to environmental stewardship. The youth volunteers of Youth Act Kalimantan and KSR PMI UPR have truly made a difference in their community, leaving a lasting legacy of sustainability and hope for future generations. and
