YOUTH ACT CENTER

We are only ordinary people who refuse to do nothing.

This is the time for the youth to come back to their roots and use their power to build their communities. YOUTH ACT is a movement which calls out for young people to actively engage in demanding climate justice and involve in climate action as well as become the part of the solutions.

Young generation plays a very important role in shaping the future of a nation. In this age where modernism has infiltrated indigenous communities in many ways, there is a big gap between the youth and the elders which leads to a disconnection of younger generation to their cultures.

On the other hands, industrialization that occurs rapidly following the infrastructure building in the areas of indigenous communities and causes the big loss of the forest has been threatening the lives and existence of indigenous people. These challenges cannot be overcome by spears and swords just like the ancestors did in the past. One big weapon is needed urgently right now.

THE HEARTLAND PROJECT

The Heartland Project is a collective action to restore the forests and ecosystem. It started as a tree planting movement in 2019, which then expanded with more initiatives such as reforestation and conservation programs.

KALIMANTAN RELIEF EFFORT

The devastating 2015 forest fire & haze crisis in Kalimantan was the moment where local youth of Palangkaraya unite as Youth Act volunteers in Kalimantan Relief Effort. Without being paid, the youth became firefighters, conducted free medical treatments for villagers, distributed N95 masks for free, took part in global climate strike, and initiate endless reforestation efforts.

A series of environmental disasters keep happening. In 2021, massive floods and landslides hit many different parts of Kalimantan island. Our team raised fund, delivered logistics, provided medical helps and acted on emergency responses.

  • Five haze shelters | Over 100,000 N95 masks | Medical help for 3,891 people | supported by Big Red Button Sg

  • 53 members | 38,648 fire spots | Collaborating with local official firefighters & volunteers

  • Food and clothes for 1,500 families | 100 volunteers | Medical help
