The haze not only hinders daily routines but also causes school holidays and economic instability in the community. It has impacted the health of people with an increase in cases of serious Acute Respiratory Infections. This is the reality faced by Pilang Village as the fires kept burning surrounding the village for four months.
Youth Act Kalimantan focuses not only on stopping the fire but also helping people whose health affected by the haze, especially babies and children. This time, we distributed 216 nutritional packages consisted of milk, honey, vitamin, candy, green peas, eggs and snacks for children in Pilang village. We also gave 200 N95 masks for local firefighters in that village. The activities were accompanied by several Elementary School and Early Childhood Education teachers, as well as Village officials.
Even though , Youth Act Kalimantan brought smiles back to children's faces and raised the spirits of the people of Pilang Village. Mrs. Natalie, Tunas Harapan Pilang's Kindergarten teacher, explained that forest and land fires, and thick smoke, caused respiratory problems in many children, disrupting teaching and learning activities. Apart from that, many village communities experienced significant losses due to their land being burned. The hope is that this year's fires will not occur next year because they have a big impact on the health of the children.
